Definition of Food Technology
Food Science and technology is a field of studies related to production, processing, preservation, packaging and distribution of food all over the world. Our world is facing shortage of food and there is a need to promote the food technology in society. Food Science and Technology is a subject of future as due to increasing population we will have to research in this field for our future generations. Many scientific disciplines like Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Engineering are related to this field.

Scope and Nature of Work
A food technologist checks the raw materials, maintain clean and hygienic conditions and quality of the food at the time of processing and preservation and packaging of food. A food technologist works for quality control and quality assurance of food. He also works in laboratories for research and on development projects. Being a consultant he gives recommendations to manufacturing companies about new and useful packaging, processing and filling techniques. He also strive to ensure the nutritional value of the food.

Generally a graduate in this field is given the post of in-charge quality insurance in the industry. Four Year BSc (Hons)/BS is the best degree in the field of food science and technology. Eligibility Criteria For Admission in BSc Food Technology
Applicants must have cleared the FSc. Pre-medical/ALevel or equivalent exam with minimum 50 percent marks.

Required Qualities
Students should have stamina to work in field for long hours as you may have to work in farms, forests and fields.
Good communication skills both in Urdu and English languages is also required.
Interest towards research and nature are also two important required qualities.
Student must be expert in the use of computer for data entry and analysis.
