That’s why there is a great confusion among students that who will be given free tablet PC and what is the eligibility criteria and schedule for tablets distribution. In fact just Provincial Minister Punjab Rana Mashud has announced that free tablets will be given to students of 6th to 10th. Syllabus of theses classes will be downloaded in these tabs. Books and heavy school bags will be eliminated from middle and high classes.
As far as specification of tabs is concern Minister has just announced that the size of the tablet PC will be of iPad size and Its market price will be 5000 rupees. Students will not be provided any internet device as tablets will be provided with in built syllabus. Every year more than 1 million students will get free tablet PC. Tablets will be provided to students of smart schools. Its just a proposed scheme till now. Although government has short listed a British firm and software company but no agreement has been signed between Punjab government and these firms.
In his one statement Minister said that tablets will be distributed among the students of 6th to 10th class and in another statement he said that tablets will be distributed among the students of 8th to 10th class. So at present even the eligibility criteria is not clear. Some social circles are opposing this scheme too. They have very strong arguments too like this scheme will spoil the school students and they will use the tabs for entertainment rather then studying. What is you point of view in this regard.
