Maryam Nawaz Sharif Ordered to Complete Distribution of Free Laptops till December
Chairperson Prime Minister Youth Program Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed HEC to complete the distribution process of free laptops under Prime Minister scheme till end of November 2014. According to her more than 49,000 students of backward areas of Pakistan were benefited with Prime Minister’s fee reimbursement scheme in year 2014. More than 1 billion 12 crore and 60 lac rupees were distributed among the students of underprivileged areas. She was presiding a meeting of highers officials of HEC in Prime Minster house on Thursday. She also directed HEC to start working on 100 % fee reimbursement scheme from next year. At present up to 40,000 rupees are refunded to students under PM fee reimbursement scheme. But it is expected that from next year total tuition fee will be refunded to eligible students.
HEC will prepare a feasibility report for including more backward districts of KPK in Prime Minister’s fee reimbursement scheme. Some more districts from other three provinces will also be included in this scheme. It has also been decided that lists of eligible candidates will also be uploaded on HEC site to ensure merit and transparency in both schemes.
Haier company will set up its laptop assembly plant in Pakistan till the end of November. Haier Electrical Company will provides internships to Pakistani students and grant scholarships of 10,000$. We already had reported that now laptops will be distributed through universities without organizing big functions attended by government dignitaries. BS and Master students can validate their names on HEC site till 31st October 2014 and we are hopeful that after that now laptop distribution will start in November as per Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s announcement.
