Abdul Wali Khan University is situated in Mardan and it was established in 2009. Abdul Wali khan was son Bacha Khan, who was a great leader of Pakhtuns. University opened its sub campus at Sawabi in 2010. More than 6000 students have enrolled in different programs of Abdul Wali Khan University. University is also known as AWAKUM. At present university has 22 different departments but in near future university is planning to open new departments in its Main campus and sub campus of Swat.
