Punjab government has decided to distribute free laptops among teachers in Punjab. But now as per media news Higher Education Department Punjab has decided to distribute free laptops only among science teachers under youth laptop scheme. Arts teachers will not be given free laptops. Arts teachers have condemned this decision. They have strong argument that no science degree can be completed without arts teachers. It was decided earlier that laptops will be distributed only among college teachers of government colleges of province and now humanities lecturers have been excluded from youth laptop scheme.
Now free laptops will be distributed only among the lecturers and professors of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Library Science under youth laptop scheme. HED has issued the notification too. President Professors and Lecturers Association Punjab Professor Dr Zahid Sheikh has also condemned this discriminative decision of HED. He said that Pakistan Studies , Islamic Studies English and other humanities subjects are taught by arts teachers in all degree programs. Government should realize the sensitivity of this issue as it will discourage the Arts teachers. Punjab government should take notice of this discriminating and black decision. Punjab government has also decided to double the quota of free laptops for students of Dini Madaris. This year 1000 additional laptops will be distributed among students of Dini Madaris. In next three years the quota will be doubled step by step.
