DPT is a five years program (10.Semesters) equivalent to 17 years of education. Its scope is much wider than B.Sc or BS Physical therapy as D.P.T degree fulfills the all international requirements that’s why it helps you in getting equivalency easily in developed countries. At present about 26 institutes in Pakistan are offering DPT program. There is no difference between physical therapy and physiotherapy. Physiotherapists have their own means of healing the patients that’ why they are considered independent professionals. Being a physiotherapist is as rewarding as general medical practice. You really make a difference in the life of dejected people. That’s why its a credible respectable and trusted profession.
Why Physical Therapy?
DPT is a professional degree and this field will give you maximum job satisfaction as you use your skill to help others. When you improves the live of patients, you will feel a sense of satisfaction and pride. D.P.T is a very good program, especially for those students who love clinical practice and want to become a doctor in spite of getting below 60% marks in FSc Pre Medical or A-Level. It is a misconception and a myth that the social status of the Doctor of Physical Therapy is less than any other alternative option of MBBS and BDS rather in the current situation i rate it the best alternative option of MBBS and BDS.
Its scope is outstanding in abroad especially Western countries. Now a days almost all sports team even at local level are hiring the services of Physiotherapist. Even female physios are working in this field with women teams but remember that DPT is much more than just dealing with sports-related injuries. For females its better option than Pharm D, DND and MBBS from China or any other foreign country.
Eligibility Criteria
In Pakistan a student must hold F.Sc (Pre-medical) with at least 50% marks or any equivalent qualification for getting admission in D.P.T. Some institutes take entry test too. Usually 40% weight age is given to entry test and 60% to FSc marks for determining the merit.

Healthcare industry is witnessing a boom due to increasing number of newly born children and old aged people. It is expected that need of qualified physiotherapist will increase by 30 % in the next few years. Income of physiotherapists increases as their experience grows. Potential to earn in this field is approximately equal to MBBS and BDS. In USA a Physiotherapist earn from 55000 $ to 70000$ per annum. About 10 percent increase in income has been noticed per annum.
