Strict Admission Policy of Government Schools

According to media reports government schools have changed their admission policy. Now principals of government schools have adopted strict admission criteria and no student is granted admission in government schools without passing admission test. This policy will affect million of students. According to Yousuf Abbasi, educational news reporter of daily Express, more than 2.5 million students will have to get admission in private school due to this policy. Punjab government had decided to enroll 4.7 million students in government schools under the universal primary education program during the current year. It was also decided that admission would be granted without any admission test and no student would be declared fail in primary classes.

Education department was committed to achieve the goal of 100 percent enrollment in Punjab. But now due to the strict admission policy adopted by government schools, it seems difficult to achieve this target. In fact education department was taking strict departmental actions against the schools and teachers who were not showing good results. To avoid such departmental actions the headmasters of government schools have changed their admission policies. According to headmasters, this step was necessary to maintain the standard of education in government institutes. In fact education department has adopted two opposite policies as when you have eliminated the concept of pass and fail in government schools then action should be taken against school administration and government teachers only on the basis of Matriculation result.
