FREE CLASSES FOR WEAK STUDENTS IN PUNJAB

Another Good Initiative by Punjab Government

School education department has decided to start special classes for week students in summer vacations. Duration of these special classes will be three hours. Students of three, four, five, five, six and seven classes will b taught in these classes. Government of Punjab will charge no fee from students for these additional classes. According to media reports, school education department Punjab has started paper work in this regard. Lists of teachers and weak students are being prepared. Education department has decided that first time in history no student will be declared fail in these classes and all the failed students will also be promoted to next classes. But these students will have to appear in one more additional exam for justifying their promotions to next grades.
School education department has issued a notification according to which daily zero period will be started from 5th of April 2014 to cover the educational weaknesses of slow learners. In these periods weak students will be taught Mathematics, English and Urdu subjects. Special instructions in this regard has been issued to all head masters of the government schools. These additional classes will be held between 7 to 10 am daily. After the completion of these special classes mid term exams will be held in the month of August. If the fail students will pass these examinations, they will be promoted to next classes on permanent basis.
Teacher associations of Punjab are apposing this scheme as they think that it would be difficult to convince parents to send their children in school during summer vacations. Its a new experience but we hope that it will bring positive results. Many other countries have also adopted such policies in school level. It will also increase the confidence level of students. We need such steps to increase our literacy rate.
