GAT General test is mandatory for HEC scholarships and for taking admission in M.Phil programs in Pakistan as there was an agreement between NTS and HEC. HEC has authorized NTS for taking tests on its behalf but now after the decision of Lahore high court it seems that HEC will not renew its agreement with NTS. NTS is a renowned test taking institution but its not an statutory body, so Lahore court declared that universities are no bound to follow the results declared by NTS. But the situation is not clear till now as the NTS is still taking tests and the future of HEC is also not looking very bright. Provinces are going to establish their own higher education commissions. We hope that government will pass some law to validate the NTS tests in the future or it will establish an Public national testing institution.
One thing which i could not understand that last day HEC published an ad in newspapers about M.Phil scholarships and in that ad it was written that students will have to appear in GRE test also then why HEC has made it compulsory for scholarship seeker to appear in GAT General test too. HEC should revise its policy to facilitate the students. The next GAT General test will be taken on 6th July, 2014.
