Introduction to Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT)?

The Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) is a standardized test that is used by universities in Pakistan to admit students into Master of Science (MS) and Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) programs. The HAT is divided into three sections: English verbal reasoning, analytical reasoning and quantitative reasoning. Applicants are required to score at least 70 on the HAT in order to be admitted into a MS or M.Phil program. You will be given 2 hours for answering 100 MCQs.

 

Who is Eligible to Sit in HEC HAT Test?

The Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) is a national examination that is conducted in Pakistan for admission in Master’s programs after 16 years of education. The HAT is a two-hour paper-based test which covers mathematics, analytical reasoning and verbal reasoning. Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 70 on the HAT to be eligible for admission into a MS and M.Phil programs in Pakistan.

The HAT is administered by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC). The test is open to students who have completed their 16 years education from an accredited university in Pakistan. Prior to taking the HAT, applicants must also provide evidence of their academic achievement, such as grades and test scores from previous academic exams.

Higher Education Aptitude Test Categories

There are five versions of the Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT). HAT 1 is for the disciplines of engineering & technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. HAT 2 test is for Management Science and Business Education related MS and M.Phil programs. HAT 3 is for the disciplines of Humanities & Arts, Social Sciences, Applied & Clinical Psychology and Law. HAT 4 is all about the study fields of agriculture, Veterinary Sciences, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Education, Journalism and Mass Communication. HAT general is for madrasa graduates who are interested in further religious studies.

 

The Higher Education Aptitude Test was first offered to students applying to join graduate degree programs at universities throughout Pakistan in 2018 and has been used to admit students into M.Phil and MS programs since 2019.

The Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) is an important admission requirement for many graduate programs in Pakistan. The test is administered by the Education Testing Council throughout the country. Applicants must submit their registration forms and application fee to be considered for the test. The HAT is a difficult exam that is used to assess a student’s ability to pursue a university degree in science, management sciences, arts, engineering, medical or religious studies. Candidates who score well on the HAT are likely to be admitted into programs at NUST and other prestigious Pakistani universities. Applicants who are not eligible for the HAT may still be able to apply to certain programs through alternative methods such as sponsorship or scoring well on scholarship exams.
