HEC to take Action Against Out of Merit Admission Scandal in Government Universities
As per media reports HEC has taken a decision to investigate the out of merit admission scandal in different universities. For this purpose HEC has directed the universities to submit the admission record of last five years. Punjab government had ended the rural, ministerial, government servants and VVIP quotas in 2008, still HEC received lot of complaints about out of merit admissions in top 10 universities. Punjab University was at the top of the list. According to daily Nai Baat report HEC received dozens of complains about following universities
University of Punjab PU
Lahore College For Women University
BZU Multan
Islamia University Bahawalpur
University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore
Agriculture University Faisalabad
GC University Faisalabad
GC University Lahore
Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi
Not only above mentioned universities but all other public sector universities of Punjab have been directed to send the record of out of merit admission in last five years to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. HEC will compare the data received from public universities of Punjab with its own record and it will be investigated that data provided by universities is correct or not. In case of finding any irregularities in admission process, strict action will be taken as per law against the administration of concerned university.
HEC has not make a policy yet about those students who have out of merit got admission in government universities and about those too who have got their degrees. We welcome this anti corruption decision of HEC. Now when Punjab government has decided to abolish all types of quotas from all educational institutes of the province there is need to implement this decision by letter and spirit.
