He was addressing the journalists in HEC Karchi regional office, when he made it clear that now students of VU Pakistan and AIOU will also be eligible to get themselves register for Prime Minister laptop scheme 2023. Distance learning students have welcomed this decision by HEC and Prime Minister Pakistan Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. First round of this PM Shahbaz Sharid free laptop scheme 2023 will be initiated from Feb, 2023. It means that laptops distribution in AIOU and VU will also be started from February, 2023. Some final decisions will be taken in this regard in a special meeting on 28 October, 2022.

Federal government has allocated 10 billion rupees for this scheme in the year 2023. It has also been declared by Chairman of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan that graduate and postgraduate distance learning students of MS, MPhil and Phd will be given preference in the distribution of laptops. It does not mean at all that distance learning students of undergraduate programs will not be given laptops. In fact limited number of laptops have been reserved for undergraduate students, so just high achievers of UG programs will be able to get free laptop. Laptops will not have the photographs on their back.
