Comparison Between BS (Bachelor of Science) & ADP (Associate Degree Program), Scope & Career Counseling Tips
Today we shall discuss in detail that what is ADP and its comparison with BS program. In Pakistan now BA, BSc, BCom, MA and MSc degrees are not offered. ADP and BS degrees have been launched instead of these degree programs. ADP stands for associate degree program and its a 2 year associate degree after inter. ADP is offered in the streams of arts, IT, commerce and science. ADP is equivalent to BA, BSc and B.Com. Still syllabus of BA, BSc and B.Com is being taught in ADP program. HEC is going to change syllabus of ADP in next 2 years. BS is equivalent to MA, MSc & M.Com. After completion of 2 years ADP program, a student can get admission in 3rd year or fifth semester of 4 years BS program. After ADP you can appear in competitive exams of Pakistan like PMS and CSS. You may also join Pak army through graduate course.

BS has more scope in Pakistan and abroad as its a 4 year degree program and after BS one can apply for admission in MS or MPhil program. BS is recognized globally. In BS students study a subject more deeply than in ADP.
At present ADP is not offered in semester system. Students appear in annual exams of 3rd year and 4th year, but it is expected that soon semester system will be introduced in ADP too. At present students can appear in ADP exam as private candidate too. But after the enforcement of semester system students will not be able to appear in ADP exam as private candidate. In majority of colleges in Pakistan BS program has not been introduced yet. Many colleges in Pakistan still have not required facilities and faculty for BS programs, that’s why they are offering BS programs in very limited subjects. Just universities and colleges of big cities are offering BS degree program in many subjects, so students are still taking more interest in associate degree programs (ADP). Specially females are preferring ADP program due to length of BS degree because in Pakistan majority of girls get marry after graduation (BA/ADP.
Students who are interested in government jobs (CSS, PMS, SI & ASI Jobs) are also still taking more interest in associate degree programs. Distance learning universities are offering associate degree programs (ADP) in semester system. Majority of distance learning students are also taking admission in ADP degrees.
Science students are getting admission in BS programs. Students who want to study abroad for specialization are also preferring BS degree. Students who want to join academia are also more interested in four years BS programs. In short both programs have their own pros and cons. ADP is also not a bad choice as it also leads to BS program. You should take decision as per your immediate goal.
