Biography of King Charles III
King Charles III has become the new monarch of the United Kingdom. He is the eldest son of late Queen Elizabeth II and late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He was born on 14 November 1948, at Buckingham Palace, in London. He was baptised in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace on 15 December 1948, by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Geoffrey Fisher. He was the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Charles was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, had attended as a boy. He then spent a term at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Australia.
Upon his return to the United Kingdom, he was sent to the Highland Wildlife Park in Scotland where he learned about the environment and the work of gamekeepers.
After completing his education, Charles served in the Royal Navy from 1971 to 1976. He was promoted to lieutenant on his 24th birthday and served on the HMS Hermes and HMS Norfolk.
Personal Life
In 1981, he married Lady Diana Spencer and they had two sons: Prince William (born 1982) and Prince Harry (born 1984). In 1992, the Waleses’ marriage broke down, and they divorced in 1996. Two years later, Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris.
