HEC Will Distribute 100000 Free EVO Devices Among Talented Students Under PM Laptop Scheme 2014-15
HEC will distribute 100000 free EVO internet devices among the talented students under Prime Minister’s Laptop scheme. Higher Education Commission (HEC) has signed an agreement with Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) in this regard on Friday. Agreement signing ceremony was held in HEC secretariat. Dr Mukhtar Ahmad Khan chairman HEC was also present at the occasion.
EVO devices will be provided 100% free of cost to the students designated by Higher Education Commssion. The students will have to pay special subsidized monthly line rent for internet connection, but they can change their package and can avail any other package on 20 percent discount rate. PTCL will provide 100000 EVO devices to HEC on no profit no loss base. PTCL will provide EVO device to HEC with in three months in installments. PTCL will block the device in case of resale. PTCL will activate the device within the3 days after receiving the activation request by the student.
PTCL wil provide 3 months free internet service to all designated students with unlimited down load facility. PTCL will also provide free brochure containing the guidelines about using the EVO device along with list of PTCL service centers in Pakistan. We welcome this step by HEC and federal government as without internet laptops are like a vehicle without gasoline. Now students will be able to use the laptops more effectively for their research and studies. But we recommend that students must be given at least 50 percent discount on monthly line rent as majority of laptop winners belong to middle class and it is difficult for them to pay monthly line rent from their pocket money.
